ARCC’s Sustainability Committee will be sponsoring a number of different activities during Earth Week (April 22-27th), and we could use some volunteers!
Earth Week Tabling – Monday, April 22nd-Thursday, April 25th
To encourage the campus community to think about how their actions relate to environmental sustainability, the Sustainability Committee will be setting up a number of tables at the bottom of the Grand Staircase. Volunteers will be asked to engage with participants in a number of different ways, like helping them to complete a climate quiz, consider their carbon footprint, or educate them on “Meatless Mondays.” To sign up for an hour long shift, please visit the Google Docs sheet below and enter your name in the slot you want:
Trash Talkers – Monday, April 22nd-Thursday, April 25th
The Sustainability Committee will once again be seeking volunteers to stand next to the recycling/trash stations in the Cafeteria and Coffee shop and help students, staff, faculty and others to properly dispose of their waste items. This group, formerly known as the “Recycling Police” and the “Recycling Gurus” has been rebranded as the “Trash Talkers” at the request of the student Sustainability Club.
Contamination of our waste streams is a huge issue and can result in both organics and regular recycling being thrown away entirely, which not only is bad for the environment but also costs us money! YOU can help by properly disposing of your waste and assisting others in doing so by volunteering for a short, one-hour shift. This is also a great opportunity for your students to get involved in environmental conservation or earn some extra credit. We really appreciate your time in volunteering and in telling others about it. Want to sign up? Check out this page! Trash Talkers
Campus Clean Up – Tuesday, April 23rd, 9am-3pm
Join Phi Theta Kappa as they work to remove litter from our campus. Sign up at the PTK Table in the Courtyard Commons. Unlimited spots available, and you can volunteer for as long or as little amount of time as you are able!
Bike to School Day – Wednesday, April 24th
The Sustainability Committee invites you to participate our second Park-and- Bike Day on Wednesday, April 24th! As we did last fall, some faculty members will be leading fellow riders from various Park and Rides around campus. The four locations are the Northtown Metro Transit Station, the Foley Park and Ride, the Northstar Transit Station in Fridley and the Anoka Park and Ride. These are casual rides that will help energize you for the day! Each of these parking areas is less than 1 hour to campus. If you’re interested in participating, please email Lisa Becker (Lisa.Becker@anokaramsey.edu) or Victoria Downey (Victoria.Downey@anokaramsey.edu). We STILL have a limited number of t-shirts available to anyone who participates!
Adopt-a-Highway – Saturday, April 27th, 9am
Join Phi Theta Kappa and help clean up a stretch of highway that they’ve adopted near the ARCC campus. Sign in at the PTK Table in the BN Bulge.
